Just Listen...

We did just that,  and then made a decision to open a specialist hi fi store that sold performance audio by using a simple A verses B demonstration.

“Just Listen to the Music” was to became our motto.

In 1983 Absolute Sound was born in Newmarket Auckland selling many famous hi fi brands.

A couple of years later we were offered distributorship of 2 prestigious brands, Linn and Naim Audio. We still distribute Linn going on 30 years later.

In 1988 we relocated to a high profile Parnell Rise showroom, retailing, distributing and then we added multi-room installation to the list of services we offered.

Times were good and busy on all sides of our business until in 2003 when to our surprise we had an offer to buy our retail arm, Absolute Sound Ltd. This offer was accepted, then giving us the ability to concentrate more on our distribution business.

We then purchased a new building in Apollo Drive, Mairangi Bay fitting it out with demonstration rooms, showroom and warehouse. Under the Linn New Zealand banner we supplied Linn to retail stores, custom installers and superyacht owners. We also took on the distribution of Tansun heaters, a UK specialist heating brand.

In 2009 we opened a new hi fi retail store, The Demo Room, again in Parnell and were there for 2½ years. Times were changing and we had to become price competitive with internet sellers around the world and to pay high street rentals did not help this cause. We did not renew our lease.

2011 saw us move back to our purpose built premises at Apollo Drive and open “The Demo Room” on the North Shore.  Business has been good and we have recently taken on 2 new wholesale brands, Q-Acoustics and Simple Audio which we are very excited about and feel sure they will become significant brands in New Zealand over the years to come.

Yes there have been many changes over the years but our motto “Just Listen” is as strong as ever.
